Breast Implants Toronto

After a couple decades of turmoil, it seems that the world of breast implants surgery has finally stabilized. We now have two major categories of breast implant types to choose from: saline (salt water) and silicone gel (cohesive gel / gummy bear). Major research has been done with respect to the safety of both types of implants and the conclusions are quite definite. Both types of implants are safe and neither lead to cancer or connective tissue disease. Some women choose saline due to cost considerations or simply because they still prefer to avoid silicone products. This is reasonable and saline work well although most would consider them to be less natural in terms of appearance (rippling and waviness is more common) and feel. Saline implants also leak more frequently and this can lead to revision surgery and implant replacement. Silicone gel implants feel and look more natural and have no leaking tendency since the gel inside is semi-solid, much like jello or a gummy bear. This means that even if the outer shell of the implant somehow punctured, the internal contents of the implant wouldn't leak out and a patient would likely never even know a puncture had occurred. One drawback of silicone gel implants is that they often require a larger incision to be made and may not be conducive to insertion through the areolar or armpit (axillary) incisions because they are pre-filled.

Plastic Surgery Toronto

These days, there is a great deal of confusion about what a Toronto plastic surgeon is. In great part, this confusion is a result of the fact that many doctors not specifically trained in surgery are now performing plastic and cosmetic surgery. When cosmetic surgery originated, it was exclusively performed by plastic surgeons. Toronto plastic surgeons are physicians who have completed 5-7 years of additional specialty training in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. In Canada, a doctor formally trained in this manner will hold a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons designation (FRCS(C)).Specialty training is essentially an apprenticeship done under the supervision and guidance of a senior surgeon. In recent years, medical doctors that have not completed Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Training or in some cases, doctors who have not completed training in any surgical specialty at all are actively performing cosmetic surgery procedures. Some surgical specialists such as ENT surgeons and Otolaryngologists perform cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures of the face and neck such as facelifts, necklifts, rhinoplasty and eyelid surgeries. This is very reasonable since these specialists have undergone rigorous training in surgery of the head and neck and can apply their skills to cosmetic surgery. Other cases, such as doctors who have no formal surgical training at all, are not so clear cut and it is incumbent on all patients to ask prospective doctors what their exact training and qualifications are prior to undergoing plastic surgery procedures in Toronto. Always ensure your doctor has Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons designation (FRCS(C)) to be sure he or she is formally trained in surgery.

Toronto Botox Pricing Special

Botox is a remarkably popular product because it works very well and is minimally invasive with no recovery time. There are a few things, however, that every patient considering Botox should be aware of in terms of adverse reactions.
Complications associated with Botox include drooping eyebrows and drooping upper eyelids which can result from wither injection of Botox too close to muscles that normally act to position the eyebrow or eyelid properly, or in some cases by unexpected migration of properly injected Botox towards these muscles. If this unfortunate outcome is to occur, the problem will resolve as the Botox wears off. Other complications of Botox include bruising, and swellig which generally last days to a couple weeks. Dr. Backstein is offering Botox at $8.00 per unit for the month of January 2011.

Multiple Procedures At A Time

Doing multiple cosmetic surgery procedures in one operation has become very common. The advantages of doing several procedures at a time are that a patient only undergoes a single operation and a single anesthesia. Of course the recovery for the different procedures will also overlap instead of occurring separately. There will generally also be a reduced cost to doing multiple procedures at once as opposed to doing them individually.
Disadvantages of multiple procedures at one time include a more difficult recovery since several body areas are affected, longer anesthesia time and possibly the need for an in-hospital stay post-operatively.

Maintaining Results After Liposuction

While it is true that liposuction removes a large portion of the fat cells in the body area that is treated, some fat cells are always left behind. It would be completely impropoer technique for a plastic surgeon to remove all the fat cells since this would inevitably lead to an unnatural look with contour irregularities. The idea is to remove the right amount of fat cells that brings the body region to be treated by liposuction into proper proportion with the rest of the body. The fat cells that are left behind will behave normally in that if a patient eats a poor diet or cuts back on exercise, these fat cells will enlarge and the appearance will be that of weight gain in those areas. The overall message is that liposuction results need to be maintained by a healthy diet and active lifestyle.

Breast Implants Styles

The large number of variants of breast implants that are discussed on the web can make the issue quite confusing. We can read about low profile, medium profile, high profile, textured, smooth, round, teardrop and on and on... My approach is quite simple. For a woman wishing to have an enlargement that comes in with a fairly normal shape to start with, I will suggest a smooth, round, high profile implant. A woman who is lacking volume at the bottom portion on the breast or who needs substantial lifting may be a good candidate for a teardrop (anatomic) implant which is always textured to prevent rotation. Other profiles of implants are only used in my practice for breast reconstructions when I am trying to match one breast - the one that underwent mastectomy - to the remaining breast's contour and profile.
