Does a Tummy Tuck Cause Scarring

Often times, patients are so thrilled and excited by the dramatic physical change and psychological uplift from the surgery, that the proceeding scars are quickly overlooked and ignored. A tummy tuck typically leaves two scars, a horizontal scar above the pubic area, and a circular scar around the belly button. In order for a tummy tuck to be conducted properly and effectively, both of these scars are absolutely crucial. A procedure conducted with an attempt to avoid these scars will tend to compromise the result of the surgery in terms of tightening, flattening, and the overall beauty of the abdominal area. However, scars are dynamic and go through phases during which the visibility changes from more to less.

During the first two months following a tummy tuck or liposuction, the scars will usually have a red tinge to them, known as the inflammatory phase of wound healing. After a full year, the scars will eventually begin to fade. It is important to note that the healing process varies for every person. One may heal either quicker or later even when undergoing the exact same surgery conducted by the same surgeon.
